Background The purpose of this study is to assess the status of health literacy in 5 hospitals in Bhutan: JDWNRH, CRRH, ERRH, TGH and Wangdue Hospital in order to develop the baseline for the current knowledge of health amongst the population.
Objectives 1. Measure the Overall Health Literacy Level among those visiting the OPD. 2. Identify Key Demographic Influences affecting health literacy levels among the OPD patients. 3. Evaluate the specific dimensions of health literacy: ability to access and understand health information and communicate with healthcare providers 4. Examine the correlation between health literacy levels and health outcomes (adherence to treatment plans, frequency of healthcare visits, and overall health status among OPD patients) 5. Provide evidence-based recommendations for targeted interventions and policies to enhance health literacy.
Study Methods Survey via questionnaires
Expected outcomes and use of results The study will describe the current status of health literacy among OPD populations in Bhutan so that targeted policies and interventions can be formulated by relevant agencies. The study findings will be disseminated to policy makers of the hospitals and the Ministry of Health. It will also be presented at national and international conferences and submitted for publication in a peer reviewed journal. Implications for policy and practice
