Title(s) and abstract

Scientific title Clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome in Sarpang District: a cross-sectional study
Public title Clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome in Sarpang District: a cross-sectional study

Background The region of Bhutan along the Himalayan foothills has subtropical climate where acute febrile illnesses are common. The hospitals situated in the southern belt are capable of identifying malaria, dengue and scrub typhus among patients with fever and thrombocytopenia.
Objectives This study is aimed at describing the profile of patients with fever and thrombocytopenia and the common aetiological agents identified with testing available in Bhutan.
Study Methods This is a cross-sectional study among patients with fever and thrombocytopenia presenting at Central Regional Referral Hospital, Sarpang Hospital and Chuzagang Hospital in 2025 – 2026. The sample size is calculated at 208, with proportionate representation from each study site, and a systematic random sampling will be adopted. Data will be collected using a structured pro forma.
Expected outcomes and use of results This study will provide an insight into aetiologies causing fever with thrombocytopenia among patients in Sarpang District. Identification of such aetiologies help in providing appropriate treatment to patients, in improving patient outcome and shortening hospital stay.
