Title(s) and abstract

Scientific title Predictors of Competency in OSCE among Nursing Students at RTC: A Predictive Correlation Study.
Public title Predictors of Competency in OSCE among Nursing Students at RTC: A Predictive Correlation Study.

Background This research on predictors of competency in OSCEs seeks to address critical gaps in evaluating clinical skills among nursing students at Royal Thimphu College (RTC). It will provide actionable interventions to improve the OSCE assessment process by identifying key factors that enhance performance. Studies have shown that clinical knowledge, practical skills, and simulation experience significantly influence OSCE outcomes.Incorporating structured feedback and rehearsal can also enhance student performance, while anxiety reduction and motivational support have been identified as important contributors to success in OSCEs.
Objectives 1. Describe the student, teacher, and institutional factors that influence the competency of students in OSCE. 2. Investigate the factor/s that significantly predict the OSCE competency. 3. Determine the strength and direction of the relationships between the predictors (factor/s) and outcome (OSCE). 4. Explore students’ perspectives on factors that influence their OSCE performance.
Study Methods Mixed method: Qualitative and Quantitative
Expected outcomes and use of results Factors that increase the OSCE competencies in nursing students. The result can serve as a benchmark for the nursing students' competencies in nursing skills, can be used in the adaptation of the curriculum to make the assessment authentic, and utilized by the institutions to improve the nursing education system in Bhutan.
