| Background |
The prevalence of mental health conditions especially depression and anxiety are on the rise particularly among youths and students. The study is going to assess the relationship between psychological well-being and academic performance among college students.
The purpose of this research study is to find out the level of psychological well-being among college students in Bhutan and explore the relationship between psychological well-being and academic performance. The duration of time spent in college is considered one of the most important phases in an individual's life. However, the stresses and challenges in the new environment cannot be overlooked. Children in colleges are distressed because of the parent’s expectation, peer pressure, academic demands both from parents and professors and environment. This transition phase in many ways throws children off-track because of the prevailing stressors. Hence, the current study identifies the relationship between psychological well-being and academic performance and the result will come in handy for many professionals including teachers, school/college counselors, health professionals and policy makers to contribute towards nation building and making Bhutan “ A nation with the best health”. |

| Study Methods |
It is a quantitative research design and cross-sectional study. The study shall be reported using Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines. The study participants will be third year college students of Bhutan. The data will be collected for duration of three months after getting the ethical clearance from REBH. The sampling method used will be non-probability purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria will be third year of Royal university of Bhutan between 18 years to 25 years. Exclusion criteria will be international students and students diagnosed with mental health conditions and speech/hearing impairment and uncooperative students. The survey questionnaire is socio-demographic information, academic performance of two academic years in percentage (average of two academic performance) and Ryff Psychological well-being questionnaires, 54 items. |
| Expected outcomes and use of results |
The present study does not have specific benefits to the patient or community. However, the conclusion drawn from this study will provide a generic description on the level of psychological well-being among college students in Bhutan. This study will also provide correlation between psychological well-being and academic performance among college students. The result of the study can be used as feedback for health and teaching professionals in Bhutan on the importance of embracing biopsychosocial approach in rehabilitation and pedagogy perspective and improve quality care of services. There is also scope for additional future research on this topic and comparing with the existing result. |
