Title(s) and abstract

Scientific title Implementation of WHO labor care guide in pregnant women and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcome at Phuentsholing Hospital: a pre- and post-interventional study.
Public title Implementation of WHO labor care guide in pregnant women and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcome at Phuentsholing Hospital: a pre- and post-interventional study.

Background Intensive monitoring of laboring mothers with partograph and timely intervention improves maternal and perinatal outcomes. WHO-modified partograph is used to monitor labor. WHO developed a new partograph “Labor Care Guide” based on the new evidence, and it is recommended for use in monitoring all laboring mothers.
Objectives GENERAL OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of monitoring the laboring mothers using the WHO labor care guide and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcomes. Specific objectives 1. To compare the cesarean section rate between the WHO Labour Care Guide and WHO modified partograph 2. To compare the vaginal deliveries rate between the WHO Labour Care Guide and WHO modified partograph 3. To compare total live birth, Apgar score, stillbirth, neonatal resuscitation and neonatal admission required, neonatal sepsis, neonatal jaundice, and neonatal death between the WHO Labour Care Guide and WHO modified partograph.
Study Methods This pre-post-interventional study will be conducted at Phuentsholing General Hospital for 6 months. In the pre-intervention phase, all the medical records of the mother delivered within the last 6 months will be reviewed and the data will be collected using interviewer-administered questionnaire. During the intervention phase, intervention will be conducted, and all the nurses of the maternity ward will be familiarized with LCG for 4 weeks. After that, all the laboring mothers will be monitored using LCG, and the post-intervention data will be collected using the same questionnaire. Data will be analyzed using SPSS version 23.
Expected outcomes and use of results comparing LCG and modified partograph on lavbor patients and its impact on maternal and perinatal outcome to reduce c-section rate
